Our Story

The idea for Red River Refillery came about slowly. I was taking the garbage and recycling to the curb and was so happy the recycling can was more full than the garbage can. Then I thought that is NOT such a good thing either, went inside and googled recycling facts and found out less than 9% of plastics actually get recycled. I thought, “How could my family reduce the amount of garbage and recycling?” I started by shopping the bulk food section of the grocery store and Prairie Roots. It felt good to reduce some of my plastic packaging waste. About the same time I saw a refillery on social media and thought it was amazing, I want to shop there. Surely others would like to shop that way too. Why do we not have one in Fargo? I waited patiently hoping a refillery would open in Fargo.

I never set out to be a business owner, but I felt so strongly that a refill store was needed and could help make a difference. I pushed through a lot of self doubt and stumbled a few times with the paperwork of opening a business. I am sure I will make many more mistakes along the way.

With the support of family and friends I opened in April 2021. I never expected the joy I felt when the first customer (that were not friends or family members) brought their own containers to be refilled.
